Common Questions

Do you make any vegan items?

Unfortunately, I don't, as vegan recipes are very complex and add a lot of strain when trying to balance the menu, but I hope to eventually provide some vegan options on my Classics Menu.

Do you offer gluten free items?

At this time, I don't, as making gluten-free products in the same kitchen without any cross-contamination is very difficult and time-consuming, not to mention how dangerous an accidental trace could be for someone with celiac disease or a severe gluten allergy. It is also very challenging to convert recipes to gluten-free, as gluten-free flours are notoriously unpredictable and hard to work with, and every single ingredient would have to come from a verified gluten-free source to be truly gluten-free, which would make sourcing ingredients very difficult. It's simply not a risk worth taking as such a small business when gluten-free isn't the main business model. If you have any health or nutrition-related concerns, such as allergies, feel free to contact me at +1 (970)-430-5797 or finnshomebakery@gmail.com and I'll be happy to help.

Do you sell custom cakes or cupcakes?

No, I don't. I wish I could, but according to the Cottage Foods Act, I can't sell anything that might require refrigeration to stay fresh, and the things I do sell must have a lasting shelf life. This means nearly any custom cakes or cupcakes would not meet the legal requirements due to frostings, fillings, and the like, as most frosting and fillings contain milk products or other ingredients in violation of the Cottage Foods Act laws and various health codes. I could try to wiggle my way around this with complex recipes involving substitution ingredients that don't spoil so quickly, but that would mean sacrificing much of the quality that I pride myself and my business on. Flavors would be lacking, ingredients wouldn't have the same fresh quality, and overall the products would be less healthy, less enjoyable, and less worthy of my time and effort, let alone your money. Therefore, I don't currently sell any custom cakes or cupcakes. Hopefully, I will be able to in the future, but my business does not meet the requirements necessary quite yet.

How do I keep my purchases fresh?

Why are your prices so high?

It's important to note that each menu item is unique and may require different steps to maintain its freshness, so I've included some specific instructions with each item you purchase. If you ever have any questions, comments, or concerns in relation to storing your purchase, the ingredients, or anything else, just call, text, or send an email and I'll be happy to help! You can find out more about contact info on the Contact Us page, or through the button at the bottom of this page.

I’ll admit, at first glance, our menu might seem a little on the pricier side. But there’s a reason for that! When you order from Finn’s Home Bakery, you're not just paying for a treat; you're paying for high-quality ingredients, careful packaging, and the time and effort that goes into making everything just right. Every item is crafted with attention to detail, and I want you to enjoy something that’s not just delicious but also made with the best ingredients I can find.

The money I make from the bakery goes toward something really important—my college dreams. Your support means the world to me and directly helps me work toward achieving my goals.

That said, it’s not only about where the money goes—it's also about running a sustainable business. As a small (and practically minuscule!) business, certain costs, like packaging, ingredients, and delivery can take up a bigger portion of our profits than they would for larger companies. And because I do everything myself, even small mistakes—a batch that doesn’t turn out as planned, a wrong order, or a misstep with ingredients—can be costly. If I make a mistake, sometimes it means I have to take money out of my own pocket to fix it, which can be tough if my profit margin is too tight.

Plus, since I deliver most orders, gas becomes a big expense. If it’s too far to bike, I’m using my car to deliver orders, and that can really add up.

I hope this helps you understand a little better why the prices are what they are. I’m committed to providing you with the best baked goods possible, and I’m so grateful for your support in helping me grow this dream of mine. Thank you for being part of it!

Why do I have to order so far in advance?

When you place an order online, I ask you to give me at least 24 hours for regular orders or 3 days for catering orders. Why so long? Everything you order is made fresh by hand before being hand-packaged and hand-delivered, so with only one baker/packer/delivery woman, it can take a while for an order to be ready. Making a single batch of cookies can take anywhere from 30 minutes to hours, not including drying time for icing or glaze, which can take up to 8 hours alone to dry if you're getting royal icing, so having the extra time for larger orders helps me ensure that I can deliver high-quality products to you on time.
